Hi Ross,

Hi Ross, Here's some long-promised eye candy of some pretty fantastic stones........
color change sapphire in direct sunlight
color change sapphire under incandescent light
pretty awesome, I think you'll agree. And, the parallelogram cut actually worked pretty well for this stone.

T- USA.

Hi Ross,

Just a note to let you know that I received the gem rough parcel last week, but left town on the day it arrived, so I wasn't able to open it until today.
The rough is all as expected, great quality all around.
Thank you for sending it, and supplying us with great rough, my brother is already designing cuts for particular pieces.
Best regards,

B.K- USA.

R,

WOW...I finished my first ruby last night....it ended up at 3.9 ct and a very deep, rich super red. It's deeper red than optimal, but I've already told you I opted for size over perfect color....what a beauty it is! This one's going in a pendant for Robin, surrounded by diamonds.
It's almost perfect....just a very small hair-line crack at a pavillion break facet and an internal fracture visible only under magnification in same location.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.....where else could I ever get such fantastic stones. I've never even seen such a stone in a store....maybe if I went to New York.
Also as I said, I polished crown with 100K diamond.........it polished fast, but not as fast as 50K. I was a nervous wreck when I finally got to the table...and I stayed up late to finish as I knew that I wouldn't get to sleep with that stone undone. And the sheen I saw on the pavillion disappeared..must have been oil or wax. The second ruby will be cut for brilliance and color, however next will be the big purple sapphire (let's hope it gains some blue color)....
Meanwhile, I'm going fishing.. Picture of ruby below
Best Regards,
ptruby.jpg

I've been working on the purple sapphire, you know.... the one that showed blue. Pretty much no matter what we do with light sources, it always looks purple to the eye (with blue and pink deep facet flashes) BUT it ALWAYS photographs blue... I trimmed it just a little bit so I could cut a nice 12 x 20 oval.

Ross,
I have just finished the 19ct. (smaller of the 2) orange sapphires. Came out pretty much perfect at 7.0 ct. The color is awesome.. A Beautiful strong orange with facet flashes of yellow and of a deeper orange-red...I couldn't have asked for better. It has silk which is just fine by me...I can't really see it, but it does give the stone a nice sheen and softens it nicely....at more oblique viewing angles the whole stone just lights up, you don't see the facets, just this beautiful orange sortta like a some sunrises at this time of year here.
I just dopped up one of the rubys...the 9 ct one. It has a great natural shape for good yield, and I'm pondering just what cut to do. Because it's so nicely saturated I think I'll cut for maximum face-up area and weight yield. Got the pavillion of the 9 ct ruby done...tonight the crown. It'll be an 8X10mm oval....I'm shooting for 3.5 to 4 ct .....I cut a standard OMNI oval pattern, but add an extra row of crown facets at the girdle @ 67deg. to get all the weight I can. I just hope it's not too dark....I cut the pavillion @ 40deg trying to lighten it a bit....GemCad shows good light return. Always a worry about color-saturated stones....go for color or go for weight....in the end I usually opt for the weight as I figure that if I had to, I could always recut.
As with previous purchases, where or when else can I get such nice stones....I'm still basking over the orange sapphire, the glow of which helped with the color-changer decision.
Another finally, I will be on the look out for a green and for a yellow sapphire. You had a nice yellow a while ago.....I kick myself for not getting it.
Best Regards,
TP.- USA.

Hi Ross,
I really appreciate the opportunity to purchase these great stones. I grew up as a rock hound, but I'm so busy, I can't get out to find my own stones. Besides, I could never find such a fantastic selection and quality. The only facet grade that I have actually mined myself is some very nice Four Peaks amethyst from Arizona, some sunstone from Oregon that isn't worth faceting and some garnets from Wyoming that are too small to facet. You are providing a wonderful service for armchair collectors like me. I have a lot of fun describing to family and friends that I buy these stones from a man in Africa and I like to point out the hazards you are braving over there. They are always quite impressed.
Thanks
B.- USA.

MR Ross,
We just wanted to say Thanks and to give you some feed back, We are a major trader of gem rough selling mainly via gems shows and mail order around the USA. We found you on the internet early last year when searching for new supliers, we consider buying anything from the internet a gamble, but we gave it a go and started buying from you. This last parcel we recieved was our 4th order for 2006 with you. We just wanted to say that it has been a pleasure to work with you. You have gone beyond what we expect for a supplier and to say that your rough is great is an understatement it is incredible.
We have tried to buy in the past from many that contact us, and because we have a well known business, many many contact us from all of africa trying to sell us gemrough. We lost so many times with these scam dealers we thought we could never get a reliable supplier, our trips to africa to buy ended up costing more than the effort was worth and the realisation that you need to be in the right location at the right time to get something good. We look to doubling our dealings with you this comin year. We were especially interested in more of those 'extreme pink garnets', and those new ones you sent cut the most beautiful magenta hue we have ever seen as you said they would, we certianly want more of these. May 2007 be a prosperous year for tz-gems.
N.E.G.- USA.

Hi Ross,
I was amazed, I received the package 2 days after I got your mail. Everything was there and looked good. I look forward to seeing more offers.
T.- USA.

Dear Tz-gems,
We got the order ok but were sad to find the expencive sapphire had a fine inclusion through it, You said it was loupe clean. yes it was very hard to see through the skin of the sapphire for sure and it only showed when we had polished a window on the stone. Frankly, When you gave us a full credit on this item and didnt even want it sent back to you, we could not believe it. Few dealers would do this and we thankyou so much. We did not expect this and we will reccomend you and your firm as being more than genuine to all we meet. We wil be able to cut 2 stones from this sapphire and wil advise to you the outcome. We certainly will be placing further orders with confidence, and we look excitedly to the coming offers you send out.
W.- USA.

Hi,
Thanks very much for your great service and I look forward to more dealings with you in the future. Happy Holidays.
Best Regards,
TS.- USA.

Hi Ross,
Just a quick email to say that the package arrived today with all items present and as described this lot will keep me busy for a while now.
Regards,
H.- USA.

Hi Ross,
I am glad you have enjoyed your holiday and returned safely. The parcel arrived in good order a short time after you shipped it.
D.- USA.

Hi Ross,
It is all good!. We plan on buying plenty more from you in the coming year. Bob and I looked mainly for interesting and original stones than commercial stuff so we really like buying from you. We really look forward to doing business with you in 2007.
A.- USA.

Hi Ross,
just received your order, all I can say is wow, I've been repeating that, for the last five minutes, every minute WOW!.. Thank you so much, we are in business together.
L.- USA.

Ross,
Well, what a nice suprise, I recieved your package today. I'm still saying WOW!, we are in business together.
Thank you so much.
L.- USA.

Dear Mr. Ross.
Thank you for arrival the parcel.
A very good color sapphire.

F.- Germany.

Hi Ross,
Got the parcel. The moonstone looks great. It is quite impressive material and hopefully it will sell well.
Most of the Aqua is nice too, That big chunk is truely awesome and clean...I may have to keep that one myself if I can afford it!

The Amethyst seems nice, but I'll have some sorting to do. Color looks great on some of the chunks and hopefully the clarity is good. That Spinel looks good too - nice clean area in the middle to facet. Best Regards, b

Comments below are before 2007

Ross,
Here is a pic. I have sent the stone off for appraisal. When it comes back I'll send you a little write-up that you can put in your customer comments if you want to.The picture really doesn't do it justice, it is VVS and blood red with just a hint of bluish overtones. Finest ruby I have seen in a long time. The rough was well shaped I got almost 45% out of it. What has me excited is that it was the smallest of the 5 stones. I'll probably have a difficult time selling it since people are so used to commercial crap rubies they won't believe it is real.
Thanks again,

This is a 10.3 ct, 13mm, Portuguese Round Pink Tourmaline. It appraised at $3,600 dollars. Thanks again for the great rough.

Dear Ashish, Thank you very much for writing, and for your interest in our company. Unfortunately, we do not supply *bulk* quantities of gem materials for resale. I can refer you to a very prominent person in the gem trade in Tanzania, Africa however that can supply you with bulk quantities of a variety of highly desirable African gem materials. His name is Mr. Ross Cranswick, and he represents TZ Gems in Tanzania. I am forwarding a copy of this message to him as well so that the two of you can discuss business arrangements. For your information, we are the second largest suppliers of rough gemstones to the hobby faceting community in the United States, and we can give Mr. Cranswick a very high recommendation. He is a very honest and reliable person to work with, and I am sure that you will enjoy business relations with him if you pursue an account. I hope that this has helped, and best wishes from Southern California, United States of America.

We, tz-gems had sold a large Alexandrite to a customer,,  the customer, was informed that it was no good and it was then cut into a very small stone, this cutting work made it next to worthless,, before it was cut the customer had it appraised by an independent expert, and this is what he said after appraisal and before he let anybody cut the stone...
''Hello Ross, Right up front I'm going to tell you that I'm eating crow. I'll admit it when I am wrong. I am wrong. Just got back from showing the Alex to the local expert. He said "Dale let's take a look at it before I start on an expensive professional analysis". He looked at the stone, turned to me and said "Buy it". I said "but the color change is way too light". He said yes it is light to a pink change but it has enough color change for buyers to recognize and accept it as Alex. He showed me some Russian material that he had just purchased and I have to admit Alex102 had the same light pink change. My expert said that size was going to sell this stone and HE would sell the stone for me. So that's the end of the story. One way or another the stone will sell and I will make a profit. So what I have learned is that Alex does not have to go from stop light red to grass green. Even light color changes will sell. So that's it Ross. I can't argue with the expert. It's a done deal. No more complaints from me. Dale. P. C.''

We had in fact offered a FULL REFUND for this stone but it was turned down. We would like to have you note there is always 2 sides to a story.
We do not feel we should be responsible after a stone has been BADLY cut, is that reasonable?.

Hi Ross:
Just a note to let you know I recieved the parcel ok. The rough is beautiful. I have been on vacation and the parcel came in after I left. I appreciate the value in the product that I recieved. Hope to get more in the future. Thanks,
Stephen.- USA.

Thanks Ross, I have just received the tanzanites in good condition. These are just awesome! Regards,
R.- USA.

Hi Ross, I wanted to let you know that my shipment arrived this morning. I also wanted to say that I am delighted with the quality of the material they look great.
I can say that this is the nicest rough that I have ever received for my money. I'm looking forward to your return in August and hope that you will still put together a sampler package of Tanzania faceting rough for me. Thank you,
J.- USA.

Hi Ross, Just a note to let you know the package you sent to me arrived today. This is actually faster service then I receive out of Thailand. I am quite happy with the River Tourmalines from Mozambique (?). The color is just great. With the exception of a few stress fractures some very nice stones should cut out of this parcel. I have only a small business. I expect one of your smaller customers. This is first time I have dealt with you. For me this was a success. Thank you. I hope we can work in the future. Best regards.
G.- USA.

Ross,
I just received the shipment today. I was curious to see what I'd bought and was pleasantly surprised when I opened the package. The sapphires are more than what I expected, beautiful color and clarity and the tourmalines look to be money makers. Thank you.
M.- USA.

Dear Ross: Today I received my order in good condition. First my compliments on your shipping methods. I received an e-mail on Thursday telling me that the stones had left TZ and I received them today, which is Monday. No sitting around and wondering what happened to my shipment. The cost of FedEx shipping is well worth it. The stones are great! The malaya, the cherry rhodolite, and the tanzanite are spectacular. Everything else is as described and I can't ask for more than that. Thank you for your wonderful service. I spoke to ))). tonight and he is also very pleased. I'm sure he will e-mail you also. Enjoy your vacation. Best regards, B.

PS : B. N. a dealer in Kwazulu Natal has asked me what I think about your rough, and I told him I will let him know after we do a transaction. I will definitely give you a good recommendation.

Aloha Ross, Wow what an adventure in your business! Thanks for the picture post! I know you are very busy with closing operations, I cut the first of one of the Rubies you got for me, super nice and 45% recovery, so far so good. Mahalo,

Hi Ross - The garnet and zircon arrived in good shape. Thanks! Do you have any amythest?
A.- USA.

Hello Ross, Got the gems, outstanding! Exactly as presented on your site and hope to get another order in before you take your holiday. Take care...
S.- USA.

Hello Ross. I was wondering how many more Kilo's of Moldavite you have? I just got 100ct's in from a test source that I bought before I went with Kilo's from you and cut a few stones. Needless to say, they are incredible. To polish this stuff to an incredible finish, just use Cerium Oxide in Optical Grade. It's blinding! I just set a stone I cut in white gold and everyone that comes in here asks what it is and how much! How many K's do you have left?.
S.- USA.

Hi Ross, I thought you might like to see one of the Spessartite Garnets I finished from the rough I got from you. It weighs 2.77 and is a 7.9 mm round custom cut. Thanks for the great material and the personal touch you add to your business. All the Best,

Dear Ross, Received my orders 3&4 today and very happy with the shipment. Everything here and accounted for. Stones look good and I'm very happy with the result. Thanks and best regards,

Ross, I received the rough and it looks very good as I expected. Thanks for the excellent rough and efficient service.
R.- USA.

Hello Ross, We did have the Rhodolite arrive this is very good gem and very happy.
HB.- Germany.

Hi Ross, I have just done a detailed inventory of the shipment and everything is in order.Once again I am thrilled about the quality of the rough. The sapphires are beautiful, I have recieved quite a bit of intrest in the in the bi colour ones already and I havent even cut one yet!
The tourmalines are better than what I had hoped for, the size, colour and clarity of these teal green gems are incredible. They are better than any I have seen around here at any of the shows or availible from any of the dealers.

The various garnets(Mali, Malaya and tsarvoite's) are all fantastic.
Thank you for the large purple scapolites, they are exactly what I require for the wedding present(I have to hurry and cut them now).
My only frustration is trying to get a good alexandrite from your auction, they always go faster than what I can get my order in (if you have one come in I would appreciate it if you could put it aside for me if that is possible).

Once again I have shown the local faceters(who have been complaining about good rough not being availible)who are amazed at what you are able to provide, in quality ,variety, quantity and service. Thank You for providing me with the opportunity to work with such fine material.

W.- USA.

Ross, Goods received with great satisfaction. I can honestly say that every parcel I have received from you has exceeded my expectations.
T.- USA.

Mr Ros, '' at JR Gems have always been cautious in obtaining gem material from africa directly due to the high risk involved. We can honestly say that to deal with you has been for us very rewarding and we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for you very honest and reliable dealings with our company. We look forward to continued further quality business cooperations.
JR.- THAILAND.

Hi Ross I recived all my rough today & all look fine ! Thank you
M.- USA.

Hi Ross, Just got back from picking it up.Some of the stones look incredible, Just off hand the rubelite and sapphires are fantastic, aswell the tsarvorite and tourmaline incredible! Thanks for everything
T.- USA.

Hi Ross, Iam ecstatic. It is in general far better than I had hoped! I have had several second opionions from other Faceters and they concure. I have to admit I was nervous about the arrangements with payment, shipping and no return policy. However you came through with flying colours!
The river toumalines are of splendid colour and shape and I would highly recomend them to other faceters, the price is a bargain considering I have seen it go for $6-12 a carat!.
The select sapphires from room 18 are beautiful(about 25 percent are color changers!),I have seen lesser quality go for $6-100 a carat!
The rhodilites 2+ gram size,,,WOW! They surpassed my expectations, with stones up to 35 carats beautiful colour and clean!
All and all if I would have ordered the rough from an North American dealer I could have spent 5x the amount of money and still not have had close to the quality and quantity that you provided.

The personal touch you provide is an added bonus. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to doing more business with you.

Hi Ross, I look forward to receiving this new parcelof rough. By the way, the 2 ruby roughs I purchased are finished heating as well as faceting and they turned out magnificent (both at 4cts). I am extremely pleased with the quality for the price. Thanks for the great service. The stones were clean. S41(1.81g) and S51(1.518g), both TOP red color. I had the stones heated. The smaller stone (4.00ct Oval) came out as one of the BEST RED colors I've seen from this area (medium dark) but the larger one (3.96ct Antique Cushion) is a bit dark after cutting so I am having it reheated this week again, I'll send you out a picture of the both stones after I get back in about 10 days. Also here is a picture of one of the rubies after cutting 7.58cts rough and finished weight is 3.98cts

Hello Ross, The parcels arrived just fine. I really appreciate the book as I believe that you can never have too much info. You can let Ross know that I received my order yesterday and everthing appeared to be in order. I have not had a chance to really look at all the stones but can say the sapphires and Rondalite Garnets are beautiful and I am very satisfied.

Ross,
I continue to be impressed with the incredible shipping. I received the package yesterday. Nice stuff, very pleased with the cut amethyst. Always interested in cut gemstones.
B.- USA.

It's HERE! THANKS!
Anyway, for the most part it looks reasonably nice with some exceptionally nice pieces.
S.- USA.

Just a note to let you know I received the shipment of Amethyst and Sapphire yesterday. I am very pleased with the merchandise. The size of the Amethysts and color is just what waspecified. The variety of the colors in the Sapphires is nice too.
All too often I have ordered gem rough over the net to be dissapointed. Either the majority of the pieces is at the lower end of the specified size range, or the stones are so internally flawed as to be unsuitable for faceting. While a few pieces of the amethyst parcel have internal veils the stones are large enough that I can saw two uable pieces from one.
I will most definately purchase from you again. .
D.- USA.

As an FYI I thought you would like to know I sent out a few of your stones for an appraisal. here are some of the results

Songea round (from room 18) 1.66 cts brown red to grey green to yellow color change
appraisal - us$1,650
Songea blue to purple color change (from room 18) 1.46 carat round

as another FYI I also had a Tsavorite appraised I had purchased already cut from someone I know that also buys from you it was .83 carats and appraised at us$950
These were of course at full retail for my area of the country and are in US dollars. I just wanted to let you know what the stones are worth on this side of the world (full retail) and I will be glad to share it with anyone who asks.
Thank you for your quality stones.

My package arrived this morning Wed. Sept. 20.. Amazing how quick and reliable FEDEX is. Parcel was intact, still sealed, and the stones are every bit as good as you described. Thank you for the exceptional service.
I received the select stone list early Sunday morning and did not view it until afternoon. I can see by how quickly items were sold that I will have to be much quicker in the future.
I look forward to doing business with you again soon..

Thank you sir!, Have a great day!! ,,,
it is always a pleasure to deal with an honorable man.

Hi Ross Ol' Buddy, Thanks for my order, I'm glad I managed to get the Spessartites, I am currently totaly depleted of them. BTW, I cut a sapphire from the last batch of rough I got from you(room18), it was a spectacular 3.05 ct. cushion cut color change(100% teal blue to red). It appraised at CCGL (Central Coast Gemological Labs) for $13,900+. Also in the batch was a ruby that finished out 2.50 ct. pear cut, and it appraised at $14,400. You may without question always use me as a testimonial for saying you furnish the absolute best rough available out of Africa! I sold the sapphire 3 weeks ago to a local and he was breathless at its' beauty! Take care my freind and I will increase my order either from the select list or from your site.
H.- USA.

I would just like to thank you for the last order!!! It was great!.... Thank you so much! .

Hi, Picked up parcel today. Seals still intact. Everything looks good. Thanks for the malacite bonus.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for sending me the beautiful book depicting the Gemstones of EAST AFRICA. That was very kind of you! I will enjoy reading it & looking at the pictures. I also noticed you sent 4 extra carats of blue sapphire rough. That was a very pleasant suprise as well.
I absolutely loved the cut amethysts you picked out for me!! They all are just beautiful. I am thinking about using the briollete and triangular cut stones together in a necklace. I loved the color of the pink, blue & yellow sapphires as well. I'm not sure what to do with them yet other than enjoy looking at them. I will probably use them in either earrings or necklace, eventually.
L.- USA.

Thought you might like to see what happens with some of the stones i have purchased from you. I have included an attachment with a couple of my new pieces. The first piece has one of your pink sapphires .60ct and a Montana agate, silver and 14K golddf53.jpg - 6194 Bytes.
The other piece has a .57 ct teal blue Sapphire,Montana agate, 14k and sterlingdf52.jpg - 5650 Bytes.

Got the other parcel yesterday. The Orange Hessonite is Very nice ! What a great bag of large material. The vivid lemon Chrysoberyl is an eye-catcher too. The spinels look OK too... there are some great colors and good sizes.

parcel arrived in great shape.... thanks for the variety, now i've got pleanty to work on for awhile. i greatly appreciate your patience and kindness. thanks again,

They have arrived safely. I was very impressed, although I would have liked to have larger pieces, especially of the Tourmaline. Of course, every wants bigger, better gems. In the meantime, I will be quite busy working with this material. Thank you once again.
J.- USA.

This is a very nice parcel! There are some sapphires that are similar in color to tanzanite. We especially like these sapphires, but most of the others are also excellent. Thanks.
RL.- USA.

We thank you the deals that we get this past year. Have a good days.
J.M.- Spain.

I picked up my stones today. I really like the change color garnets and sapphires. You wouldn't happen to have a larger Padparadschah sapphire?, I love the color of it.
L.- USA.

Great rubies, Impressive Rhodolite for the price, and that maylaya garnet looks interesting.
The Emerald is a Superb color!, although a bit zoned. And actually it is quite comparable to (or Better than) "30 year old top facet grade Brazilian rough" that others have been selling.
B.- USA.

I recieved the order from you today. I really like the garnets. I like the sapphires also, this will be my first natural sapphires. I have cut lots of lab sapphires. Thanks for the opportunity to do business you.
K.- USA.

I appreciate your honesty with respect to the quality of the stones you sell and have been very pleased.
M.- USA.

Arrived just yesterday thanks. Looks good.
N.- Australia.

Thanks for the E-mail, the stones arrived yesterday. I'm very excited about cutting the kyanite. I wasn't expecting the fine blues. The garnet is really great too,Is there any more? The sapphire, however, is a real steal. How can you afford to give away this material? USA dealers are charging $20-50 per carat for this size and quality rough.
T.- USA.

Wanted to let you know the parcel of gems arrived safely here. The parcel looks good. I couldn't help but notice the extra rough material you enclosed, and also the extra care that was taken to prepare, wrap, and pack the material. A quality professional job!!! Thank you for taking care of this order. Nicely done.
P.- USA.

On the aquamarine I like the size, and color, it is a challenge to try to maximize the production from the stones, especially the 90 ct piece!. At any rate I am satisfied with it.
D.- USA.

I wanted to let you know that I received the parcel of sapphires today. There was some nice stones in the parcel, maybe even I can cut a pretty stone from them. The packaging was very good and the service and turn around time was exceptional, Thank you. I look forward to when I can make another order from you, you have nice material.

I received the parcel with amethyst 1.88kg that I won in your auction and I am very happy about it; beautiful material and colours for my cabbing. Wanted to let you know.

RECIVED YOUR SAPPHIEN PLEASE IT IS GOOD, LET ME KNOW IT IS FORM WHICH MINES.
S.- India.

I have received the parcel and cut a few of the color change Garnets. There are a few larger sized pieces in the color change garnets and overall very clean. As for the sapphires, These two pieces are nicely formed and should yield a good return. Anyway I am as I said generally satisfied with the rough and should be able to cut some good stones and make some money from these.

Many people don't have a clue to the troubles that you have to work through just to be able to make gemstones available to the public. You offer great material and service that is second to none. You and all your employees are to be commended for that. Although I'm just a hobby faceter and have only made one order from you so far, I look at your listings on your web site a couple times a week just to see the material offered.

The problem I've had lately is that your stuff is sold before I get a chance to order any.
